The Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar recently released the latest version of its Social Media Ethics Guidelines–the first version came out in 2014. The Section cautions the reader that these guidelines are merely that and are not requirements. According to the Section, the guidelines represent “best practices.” The areas that have been updated for 2015 include
–the retention of social media by lawyers
–the tracking of client social media
–communications by lawyers with judges
–lawyers’ use of LinkedIn.
