Personal Facebook Post Leads to Loss of Employment

A cook in Utah was recently fired by a restaurant after he posted a picture/meme on his personal Facebook page.  The meme showed a “dead” police officer and included the following title ‘This Is What A Good Cop Looks Like.’  A restaurant customer who noticed the cook’s post apparently reposted it on the restaurant’s Facebook Wall.  This in turn led to negative reviews for the restaurant and demands that the cook be fired.

The cook ultimately asked the owner of the restaurant to fire him so that the controversy might go away.  The owner obliged.  However, the firestorm has not died down.  In fact, it may have gotten worse as numerous people are now accusing the restaurant of running roughshod over the cook’s First Amendment rights.
